ARTICLE II:Crew 153 Bylaws
A. Objectives
As Venturing Crew 153, our vision is to strengthen the bonds within our crew by exploring the world and enjoying high adventure activities while creating effective leaders for God and our county.(VLSC 2007)
B. Membership
1. Membership is open to all young adults of high school age who live in the surrounding area that are between the ages of 13 and 21 years old. Members must also have completed the eighth grade. 2.Troop 153 Boy Scouts may participate in the Venturing Crew at 13 years of age upon meeting the following criteria: First, have completed the Fall Semester of their 8th grade year.Second, have at least earned the rank of Star Scout.Lastly, been approved by the Crew Leadership through an interview conducted by no less than three Crew Officers. 3. Prospective members shall not be disqualified due to race, color, creed, religion, or sex. 4. All members must agree to the crew code and bylaws. 5. Members will be considered active if they have filled out the proper paperwork and have participated in at least 75% of Crew activities (to include meetings). 6. New members are required to purchase a complete Venturing uniform within 2 months of joining the crew.
C. Officers
1. The elected officers shall be President, two Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, Quartermaster, Crew Guide, and Venturing Officers Association Representative. 2. The President shall appoint activity chairs and make other assignments as needed. 3. The duties of the officers are prescribed in the Venturing Leaders Manual. 4. The normal term of office shall be 6 months. Terms will be defined as follows:Fall Term [August 1st through January 31st]; Spring Term [February 1st though July 31st] 5. No member shall serve more than two successive terms in the same office. 6. Nominations for office are open to all active members. Nominations must be agreeable by the nominee. 7.Only when the number of active Crew members exceeds the number of offices shall a Crew member not be required to hold an office. 8. All ballots will be secret and counted by an outside party; such as a Crew Committee Member and/or parent.
D. Crew Business
1. Crew business will be conducted under Robert's Rules of Order. Voting will be majority, except to amendments or changes of the bylaws, which will require 2/3 vote of the total membership. A quorum shall consist one more than majority of members for votes on routine business.
E. General Meetings
1. Meetings will be held on the 1st, 3rd and 4th Mondays during the months of August through May to coincide with the school calendar year. 2. The second Monday of each month is a non-meeting day due to our District Venturing Officers Association Meeting which is currently be held on the second Tuesday of each month 3. If a 5th Monday occurs on any given month during the school calendar year there will be a regularly scheduled Crew meeting.
F. Officer’s Meetings
1. They may be held at the President's need and discretion. 2. Time and place may vary.
G. Newsletters
1. The Crew Secretary will publish a newsletter every other month or when necessary. This newsletter will serve as historical record and include important information about meetings and upcoming events. I. Fundraisers 1. All money-earning projects must be approved by a majority vote of crew members. 2. Members who do not participate in the project are not entitled to any of its profits. 3. All fundraisers must be approved by Advisor and meet Boy Scouts of America requirements. J. Uniforms 1. Class A: Green Venturing shirt with gray pants/shorts and Venturing belt 2. Class B: Green Venturing shirt with blue jeans or shorts 3. Class C: Venturing polo or t-shirt with blue jeans or shorts
